The Allegro ACS758 family of current sensor ICs provides an economical and accurate solution for AC or DC current sensing. Typical applications include motor applications, load detection and management, power supplies and DC-DC converter control, inverter control, and overcurrent protection.
The device consists of a low-offset, precision linear Hall circuit with a copper current path close to the surface of the die. Current flowing through this current path generates a magnetic field that is converted by the Hall IC into a proportional voltage output. Device accuracy is optimized by placing the magnetic signal close to the Hall sensor. The precise, proportional output voltage is provided by a chopper-stabilized, low-offset BiCMOS Hall IC that is factory programmed for accuracy.
Allegro's proprietary integrated shielding technology provides high immunity to current conductor dV/dt signals and stray electric fields, ensuring low output voltage ripple and low offset drift in high-side, high-voltage applications.
The output of the device has a positive slope (>VCC / 2) when increasing current through the copper primary conduction path (terminal 4 to terminal 5) for current sensing. The internal resistance of this conduction path is typically 100 μΩ, resulting in low power losses.
The thickness of the copper wire allows the device to operate under high overcurrent conditions. The terminals of the current path are electrically isolated from the signal leads (pins 1 to 3). This allows the ACS758 sensor IC family to be used in applications that require electrical isolation without the use of opto-isolators or other expensive isolation techniques.
The device is fully calibrated before shipment from the factory. The ACS758 family is lead-free. All leads are plated with 100% matte tin, and there is no lead in the package. The large leadframe is made of oxygen-free copper.
